Line structures in recurrence plots

چکیده

Recurrence plots exhibit line structures which represent typical behaviour of the investigated system. The local slope of these line structures is connected with a specific transformation of the time scales of different segments of the phase-space trajectory. This provides us a better understanding of the structures occurring in recurrence plots. The relationship between the timescales and line structures are of practical importance in cross recurrence plots. Using this relationship within cross recurrence plots, the time-scales of differently sampled or time-transformed measurements can be adjusted. An application to geophysical measurements illustrates the capability of this method for the adjustment of time-scales in different measurements.  2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. On the structures and quantification of recurrence plots

Ž . Recurrence plots RPs often have fascinating structures, especially when the embedding dimension is 1. We identify four Ž . basic patterns of a RP, namely, patterns along the main 458 diagonal, patterns along the 1358 diagonal, block-like structures, and square-like textures. We also study how the structures of and quantification statistics for RPs vary with the embedding parameters. By cons...

Recovering smooth dynamics from time series with the aid of recurrence plots.

A graphical method based on recurrence plots is used in the reconstruction of the phase space from a time series of measurements. It is demonstrated that if the embedding delay and dimension are correctly chosen, the recurrence plot of a smooth dynamical system has a particularly simple form. It is shown how to use recurrence plots to determine the correct embedding parameters so that reliable ...

Nonlinear analysis of bivariate data with cross recurrence plots

We extend the method of recurrence plots to cross recurrence plots (CRP) which enables a nonlinear analysis of bivariate data. To quantify CRPs, we introduce three measures of complexity mainly basing on diagonal structures in CRPs. The CRP analysis of prototypical model systems with nonlinear interactions demonstrates that this technique enables to find these nonlinear interelations from bivar...

Use of Recurrence Plots in the Analysis

Recovering information about the periodic behavior of a non-stationary signal typically requires a large data set and extensive o -line analysis. Alternatively, we've modi ed Eckmann, Kamphorst and Ruelle's idea of a recurrence plot, which they de ned to appreciate the dynamics of a time series without either of these constraints. Geometrical properties of our plots provide dimensional complexi...

Recurrence plot features: an example using ECG

Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals are analysed using the nonlinear method of recurrence plots, which reveals subtle time correlations in time-domain signals. Large-scale features in the recurrence plots, which consist entirely of single dots, line segments of different orientations and white spaces, are directly related to time-domain features in the original signals. The relationship between rec...
